From humble beginnings, Ronan Keating grew to be one of the most recognised solo musicians on the planet. The son of an Irish lorry driver and mobile hairdresser, Keating made a name for himself as co-lead singer of the iconic 90s boy band, Boyzone, thereafter forging his own impressive path on the global music scene as a solo artist. Keep reading to learn more about Ronan Keating, about his live concert in Cape Town, and two excellent accommodation options if you’re traveling from outside of Cape Town!

Who is Ronan Keating?

Ex-lead singer of 90s pop band, Boyzone, Ronan Keating has sold over 20 million albums as a solo artist – alongside the 25 million Boyzone albums sold to date. Born in 1977 and growing up in Dublin, Ireland, Keating was a track-and-field sensation in his younger years before turning to music as a career in 1993.

Over the years Ronan Keating has won many awards, including Smash Hits Best Solo Male. He was given a tree in London’s Hyde Park for performing for The Prince’s Trust. He also has a World Music Award for best-selling Irish artist.

Keating’s charity work is just as impressive as his musical exploits. In October 2005, Keating went to Rome where he was appointed as a UN Goodwill Ambassador via the Food and Agricultural Organisation. He ran the London Marathon in 2008 to raise money for cancer research, with a personal best time of 3hr 59min.

He has walked the length of Ireland twice, each time raising money for the Marie Keating Foundation, now linked to cancer research in the UK. In 2009, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Comic Relief; joining him were a handful of fellow celebrities including Cheryl Cole, a singer formerly with girl group Girls Aloud and a judge on The X Factor in the UK.

Ronan Keating has for years worked closely with iconic South African golfing legend, Gary Player, to raise funds for South African charities. His Mzansi concerts are examples of such endeavours, as proceeds from both Ronan Keating live in South Africa concerts will be donated to SA Charities.
