Everyone’s favourite cousin, Barry Hilton promises to leave you in stitches with his latest comedy tour show: Unscripted. After decades of live comedy shows, television adverts, and even the odd movie appearance, Barry is hitting the road once again with a show for people who need some authentic South African humour in their lives! If you’re in Cape Town on the 3rd and 4th of February, The Playhouse in Somerset West is the place to be.

Who is Barry Hilton?

David Barry Hilton, aka “The Cousin” was born on 29 January 1956 in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe). After doing an electrical apprenticeship, Hilton landed a job as maintenance manager at a hotel frequented by then-iconic comedians from a television show called “Biltong and Potroast”.

As a naturally funny guy, Barry took to comedy like a duck to water, and after teaming up with manager Johnny Noble landed his first gig at The Holiday Inn in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth). This was the first time South African audiences got to hear his hilarious shenanigans, and Hilton has been a comedy legend in South Africa ever since.

Barry Hilton’s claims to fame

Other than a legendary standup comedian, Barry Hilton has a raft of claims to fame that stretch as far as Hollywood in the United States. In 2009, he was nominated for Best Actor at the Feel Good Film Festival in Hollywood. This was for his leading role in the film “Finding Lenny”.

Barry Hilton was the Face of the Brand between 1999 and 2011 for Savanna Cider. He has also appeared in adverts for brands including Chevrolet, Nashua, Romans Pizza, and Lasher Tools. Hiton has a total of seven DVD comedy specials, one of which was developed for DStv Box Office.

What is Barry Hilton Unscripted?

Unscripted is Barry Hilton’s latest comedy tour, taking South Africa by storm in January, February and March 2023. Catch him at Somerset West’s The Playhouse Theatre on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th of February, and again on the 15th of March at Die Boer in Durbanville, Cape Town.

You can grab tickets for Barry Hilton Unscripted at The Playhouse Theatre for R130 to R150 each, and the shows start at 7pm on both nights. Unfortunately, children under the age of five won’t be able to attend the show. Whether you’re a diehard Barry Hilton fan or you’ve never seen a live comedy show before, Barry Hilton promises to bust your gut with laughter from start to finish.
