Everyone needs a little adventure now and again. We don’t mean everyone should experience the icy waters of the Cape as they swim with the creatures of the deep, but we do recommend getting out of your comfort zone.

Leaving your comfort zone, whether it’s your favourite couch or your favourite holiday destination, doesn’t only give you a break from the monotony of the known and the normal, it gives you the opportunity to experience new and exciting things.

Granted, some people aren’t interested in going on an adventure – and that’s perfectly okay, but if you’re going to follow travel trends and millennial thinking, then your money is better spent on experiences than buying things.

HERE ARE OUR THREE TIPS FOR CREATING THE PERFECT ADVENTURE TO SUIT YOU:

1) START WITH YOURSELF

Before planning any adventures or trips, the best thing to do is take some time to reflect on what you want in an adventure and what limits you’re willing to push.

For example, if you really aren’t a fan of heights, promise yourself you’ll give Table Mountain a chance. It may seem scary, but the views are well worth it.

Alternatively, you could also choose to steer clear of any activities you think are too risky, such as base-jumping or spelunking.

2) DON’T LEAVE ROOM FOR DISAPPOINTMENT

Don’t you just hate it when you’ve been looking forward to something and it ends up being a disappointment?
We, at City Lodge Hotel Group, believe in doing as much research as possible. Doing research not only helps ensure the activities and experiences you are interested in are worth your time and money, they also help you understand what to expect. Allowing you to make a judgement call on what you think is worth spending your hard earned money on.

We suggest using sites like TripAdvisor, Local Guides – Google Maps and Viator.

3) ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP

At the risk of sounding a little negative, we recommend you put together a list of backup plans if things go wrong.

For example, if you planned on visiting the botanical gardens but the weather is just not cooperating, instead of feeling like your adventure is ruined, rather pick another amazing activity from your backup list.

Having a backup list of experiences and adventures is one way to ensure you have a wonderful time, no matter what.

Remember, an adventure is only as memorable as you make it, so make a plan, come up with backup plans and set yourself some awesome travel goals as you go. Oh, and don’t forget to do something that scares you a little, even if it’s just snorkelling on a reef or a short hike.
