It’s mid-year, which means it’s the perfect time to book a weekend getaway and get some R&R (rest and recuperation). We’ve all felt it, that mid-year slump. That exhausted ‘I don’t want to get out of bed today’ feeling. If you haven’t, you’re one of the lucky ones. If you have, that’s your brain and your body telling you, you need a holiday.

Here are our recommendations for a mid-year, weekend getaway:

JOHANNESBURG JOL:

If you’re a city slicker or looking for a big city experience, then Johannesburg is the place to be!

If you love shopping, going to the theatre, screaming your head off on a roller-coaster or trying your luck at a casino, then book a weekend stay at our conveniently located City Lodge Hotel at O.R. Tambo International Airport

Johannesburg is filled with amazing restaurants and cocktail bars. Not to mention the glamorous nightlife scene. For some, R&R means sitting back with a book or sleeping in, but in Johannesburg R&R means going out, seeing people, having fun and making memories.

DURBAN CHILL:

A weekend getaway in Durban is almost opposite to the high energy experience Johannesburg offers. If you’re wanting to sit on the beach and relax with a book or go for a morning surf, then book a weekend at our City Lodge Hotel Durban or City Lodge Hotel Umhlanga Ridge.

Don’t confuse Durban with a sleepy town, it’s not. However, it is important to note that things do seem to run on African Time. But, that shouldn’t bother you — especially if you’ve chosen the relaxing, sandy beaches of Durban as your holiday destination of choice.

Our suggestions? Pack a good book, a swimming costume, sunscreen and a beach towel. Take advantage of the awesome uShaka Marine World Aquarium and embrace feeling like a kid again on the water slides at Wet ’n Wild.

CAPE TOWN COOL OFF:

If you’re a wine lover, you know why we’re suggesting a weekend getaway at our City Lodge Hotel Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

But, Cape Town isn’t only an amazing destination for foodies, wine and art lovers. It also caters to those who love a bit of adventure.

If the laid-back atmosphere in Durban doesn’t appeal to you and Johannesburg seems a little too busy for your liking, then Cape Town is an ideal destination. Climb Lion’s Head or Table Mountain in the morning, then tour some vineyards and taste wines in the afternoon. You can also swim with penguins who dress to impress at Boulder’s Beach.

Whichever destination you decide is best suited to your idea of R&R, we hope you have a wonderful weekend getaway. Relax and get over your mid-year slump. Then go back to work refreshed and ready to tackle the second half of the year
