We can’t all be flying first class all the time, especially at certain times of the year when money is a little tight.

Should that stop you from having a great trip? Not for a minute.

We’re going to share some top tips with you to make any budget feel a lot more comfortable, so get out that notebook and pen and listen up…

STEP 1: CHOOSE CAREFULLY

When booking your seat, either ask for one by the exit, or at the front of a section. These typically have more leg room – very important for the taller travellers among us.

If these aren’t available, then don’t give up just yet. Once you’ve boarded, keep an eye on any empty seats around you. If you’re in for a long flight, then it’s worth asking to move to a row with a couple of empty seats so you can spread out a bit more.

STEP 2: TAKE COMFORT INTO YOUR OWN HANDS

The more prepared you are, the happier you’ll be in flight – no matter what seat you get! Make sure to pack the following:

  • An inflatable travel pillow
  • Noise cancelling ear plugs
  • An eye mask
  • Slipper socks
  • Hard boiled sweets

All these things will help you sit back and relax, and almost completely forget your surroundings. The hard boiled sweets are for those who suffer from air sickness – suck on one during take-off and you’ll feel a lot better.

Another trick to keep up your circulation is to pack an inflatable or collapsible little stool to put your feet up on during the flight. Keeping your feet slightly elevated will reduce swelling and joint pain.

STEP 3: TREAT YOURSELF

Best way to enjoy your flight? Plan for enjoyment! Buy yourself a few treats from Duty Free and either have them instead of your inflight meal, or as dessert.

Another little trick to make you feel great is to pack some of your favourite and most refreshing toiletries in your hand luggage. A cool face wipe and your own tooth paste and brush can make the world of difference on a long flight. So think of your favourite little creature comforts ahead of time and let the pampering begin.
