Humans weren’t built to take to the skies, which is why it’s understandable that many people feel nervous or uncomfortable right before they have to hop on an airplane.

For some, flying for business trips or holidays is rather exciting, while for others it’s more like a death-defying feat. That’s why we’re here to help!

Here’s a list we’ve put together to help you combat your pre-flight jitters:

CLHG_ FIGHT THE ANXIETY WITH REST

Got a flight booked for tomorrow that’s making you feel anxious and uneasy? We suggest getting an early night before hopping on your flight.

Getting a good night’s sleep won’t only help you to think more clearly the next day, it’ll also help you feel a bit more relaxed and perhaps even mentally prepared for your flight.

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON

If the thought of taking off in an airplane has you severely stressed, we recommend a good cup of tea and a few deep breaths.

For situations like these, we suggest a calming tea like peppermint or Chamomile. We also suggest you practice breathing exercises which will help relax you, release tension and help you focus on something else.

Try taking long deep breaths in through your nose, holding your breath for a count of three and then exhaling through pursed lips. This technique is great for relaxation as it helps control your breathing in stressful situations and it ensures you don’t hyperventilate.

FOCUS ON SOMETHING ELSE

Need help relaxing whilst on a flight? Make sure you pack your headphones and your music player of choice.

It’s funny to think something as simple as listening to your favourite artist or band can calm your nerves, but it seems to work. In fact, making a playlist for your flight is a great way to distract yourself from the fear associated with flying.

SPEAK UP

Last but not least, let one of the flight attendants on board your flight know that you’re nervous. This is nothing to be afraid of, in fact, it’s a flight attendants job to assist you and help you feel comfortable during your flight.

Speaking up about your worries and discomfort gives the crew on board your flight the opportunity to help you overcome your fears – something that might be overlooked if you don’t speak up.

Travel is meant to be enjoyable, but sometimes there’s just no helping what we’re afraid of and what causes us stress. What you can do, however, is try to enjoy your travels as much as possible, so when you have to deal with flying, you can reflect on your business trip or holiday instead of thinking of the airplane and your upcoming flight.
