Comic Con is Africa’s biggest and best pop culture and gaming festival, offering fans a whopping 10 categories of fun things to explore, experience and enjoy. Comic Con Africa has grown so rapidly, a second Comic Con event is planned for April 2023 in Cape Town. Sponsors of this year’s gathering include KFC, Luno, and Telkom, making it one of South Africa’s best–supported festivals. But enough about the sponsors, let’s look at five things you must see at Comic Con Africa 2022:
Anime & Manga
If you’ve got a thing for reading books back to front, or you think Bleach is the best animated television show ever made, you’re an anime fanatic and your tribe waits for you at Comic Con Africa 2022! Be part of The Anime Manga Otaku Lifestyle Show, also known affectionately as AMO. Hear from Mangaka Ziyaad Rahman, the host that’s mad about manga, addicted to anime, and tremendously talkative!
Cosplay
You simply can’t visit Comic Con Africa without seeing more than a few people dressed in cosplay outfits. Other than Halloween, Comic Con is the only time fans of cartoons and pop culture can dress up and exhibit their artform for all to see and appreciate. Visit Cosplay Central, catch amateur and professional cosplay tournaments, and rub shoulders with some of the best cosplayers in the world.
Gaming
Do the names DOTA, Counter Strike, Apex Legends, and PUBG mean anything to you? If so, you’re likely a massive video games fan and will be in your element at Comic Con’s gaming exhibition. Enjoy the best of all things gaming, with three gaming tournaments happening, over 30 top gaming vendors, and a bunch of fun gaming merch competitions to take part in!
StreamerCON
StreamerCON is for those South Africans interested in becoming live streamers on platforms like YouTube and Twitch. This event brings together the who’s who of making, watching, promoting, and creating online video content. This exhibition is for you if you’re a content creator, streamer, influencer, gamer, or vlogger. StreamerCON Africa has been made possible in partnership with Rode Microphones.
Tabletop Gaming
Gather your buddies around one of many tables at Comic Con Africa for a weekend of epic tabletop gaming fun. If Warhammer 40k, Magic the Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh mean the world to you, there’s a comfortable seat with your name on it at Comic Con Africa.
