5 REASONS YOU HAVE TO VISIT NAMIBIA

With an average of over 300 days of sunshine a year, Namibia is paradise for the outdoor lovers. With a great chance of the weather being on your side, you have the chance to get out and explore one of the world’s most unique countries.

Here are our top reasons why you have to visit Namibia as soon as you can.

FISH RIVER CANYON

When was the last time your breath was taken away? If it’s been awhile, you should head to the Fish River Canyon. What’s so special about it? Well, it’s the largest canyon in Africa and the second largest canyon in the world! Don’t stress if you’re bad with directions. At 160 km long, up to 27 km wide and around 550 meters deep, you can’t miss it; you wouldn’t want to miss it anyway.

SUNRISE IN THE DESERT

It’s not everybody’s idea of a relaxing holiday but hiking up Namibia’s iconic Dune 45 for a desert sunrise is a right of passage for anyone exploring the Namib.

Imagine the rich colours of an African sunrise mixed with the romance of the orange sand dunes that stretch as far as the eye can see. No matter how hard you try to imagine it or how many photos you see of a desert sunrise, nothing compare to the calm and beauty of the real thing. We promise you won’t regret waking up early.

CHEETAHS SOMETIMES PROSPER

Even though we believe in playing by the rules and being fair, we do have a soft spot for Cheetahs. And what’s not to like about our spotted friends? They’re the world’s fastest animal, they can reach speeds up to 120 km, and they’re adorable.

Namibia’s lucky to have the space that these furry friends need to thrive. This has lead to Namibia being the country with the highest number of Cheetah in the world. With 40% of the world population found in Namibia, this makes it a great destination if you’re as in love with these speedy cats as we are!

ROCKING THE ART

If you’re looking for a bit of history and culture while you’re passing through Namibia, where better to visit than one of Africa’s most densely concentrated areas of rock carvings and rock paintings? The Twyfelfontein valley is home to the ultimate outdoor art museum. The UNESCO World Heritage Site has over 2,500 paintings and carvings that document how the first hunter-gatherers and Khoikhoi herders saw the world. Step back in time and marvel at these ancient treasures to get a feel for the history of Namibia and its people.

ETOSHA PAN SAFARI

Most people have been to a game reserve at some point in their lives. It usually consists of squinting through the bushes all day long until even anthills start looking like animals. Luckily in the arid Etosha, the animals crowd around the watering holes to get a much needed drink. This means that you can see much more than you can at your normal bushveld game reserve. Visit a waterhole and enjoy sightings of incredible animals like Elephant, Black Rhino, Cheetah, Lion and Leopard.

If you’re travelling to Etosha, Town Lodge Windhoek is the perfect place to stopover on your way up to the reserve.

The best thing about Namibia is that this isn’t even close to how many amazing things there are to do in such a vast and unique country. Don’t be scared to get out there and explore our neighbours to the North. Have fun and we hope to see you on the dunes!
