Don’t worry, we’re not #TravelHaters. In fact, we’re travel lovers, and we want to help ensure you enjoy travelling as much as possible. That’s why we’re about to unpack some travel truths that will help you be better prepared and, ultimately, enjoy your time away from home as much as possible.
The idea of travelling has become so popular that many people, young and old, set out on adventures and business travel every year. But, travel isn’t always as pleasant as some may envision, which is why we’ve put together this list of handy truths to help you prepare for your next trip:

WHATEVER THE WEATHER

1) All the weather apps in the world can’t accurately predict the weather. Nature is a force which seems to have a mind of its own. This means that no matter how much you want to believe that the weather on your travels will be considerate and accommodating, the opposite is likely to happen.
Don’t feel sorry for yourself just yet. We’re not saying the weather is going to ruin your travels – we’re just reminding you to think ‘what if’.
For example, instead of just packing sandals, shorts, T-shirts and swimwear for a summer holiday, you should also plan for any changes in weather, which means packing long pants, jackets and closed shoes. This way you won’t be stuck wearing summer apparel during a cold evening or a thunderstorm.

SOLVE THE PLUG POINT PROBLEM

2) Don’t you hate getting to your destination only to find that your room doesn’t have enough plug points, and you need a plug adapter just to charge your cell phone? This is a pet peeve that many travellers have had to deal with and although it’s a small irritation, it can put a dampener on your trip.
Luckily, this is an easy fix. We strongly advise packing a multi-plug adapter, so you can plug in or charge multiple electronics at the same time. You should also carry converter plugs with you in case you need to plug in a two-point plug or convert to a European plug.

EXPECT DELAYS

3) When you travel, things don’t always go as planned, and they certainly don’t go the way Hollywood often depicts. Whether you’re in a developing country or a developed country, there will always be travel related delays. If it’s not your plane, it may be your bus or other public transport. Just because you’re on a holiday or a business trip, it doesn’t mean that you won’t get stuck in traffic, experience a flight delay or have to wait for a taxi.
Our suggestions? Don’t let this small inconvenience ruin your experience, instead see it as an opportunity to learn about your fellow passengers, your driver or the locals.

DO YOUR RESEARCH

4) Many travellers have gotten to their destination only to find out that the place they were hoping to stay at isn’t what they expected. Often travellers have reached their hotel to find it’s completely different to what they had seen online.

The first bit of advice we’d like to offer – go with a well known and reputable place. Don’t make bookings if you aren’t 100% sure you and your personal items will be safe. The last thing you need is to be in danger or have your stuff stolen.

The second bit of advice, don’t be afraid to use the internet to your advantage. Check reviews on various sites, look up your destination on social media and don’t be afraid to ask your colleagues, friends and community about the places you’re thinking of going. First-hand experiences always give you a better representation of what you can expect.

We hope you enjoy your travels and that these tips and pieces of advice have helped you, not only prepare of any eventuality but also help you plan your next trip.
