It’s nearly the end of the first quarter of the year, which means it’s nearing the end of the first term and school holidays are around the corner. Have you planned a family holiday yet? If not, here’s why you should:
CHILDREN WORK LONG HOURS TOO:
As grown-ups, we often forget how stressful and demanding school can be. On average, children are expected to stay engaged and active for 7 hours a day (this time does vary depending on your child’s grade and age).
Compared to the average 8-hour work day of an adult, your children’s time at school may not seem like much. However, let’s not forget exams, projects and homework, which can take up to 2 hours to complete. Most working adults have the luxury of putting in 8 hours at work and then going home. We aren’t expected to turn in homework, projects or study for exams.
FAMILY TIME SUFFERS:
Modern life is busy and often the only time families get to see each other is on weekends or in the evenings at dinner. Going on family holidays allows you to make memories and strengthen family bonds. Holidays also give you the freedom and space to interact and relax with your loved ones.
This is why school holidays, and more importantly, family holidays are so important for your children’s development. School holidays aren’t just an opportunity for your children to rest or a chance for them to have fun and just be children, school holidays are also the perfect opportunity for your family to bond.
As mentioned before in our blog post, “Why you should plan a holiday away from home“, planning a holiday away from home is an ideal way to rest and recharge, especially for your children. Taking your children out of a familiar environment and allowing them to experience other places is a fantastic way get their mind off exams, school projects or that maths equation they just can’t seem to get their head around.
Not sure where to go for your family holiday? We suggest getting your children involved and asking them what they would like to see and where they would like to go. Getting your whole family involved in deciding on your holiday destination will kick-start your bonding before you leave. Discussing destinations and holiday ideas will also ensure your children are happy with your holiday destinations decision.
