We’ve already made some noise about Eat-in, which is rolling out delicious lunch and dinner options at Town Lodge and Road Lodge hotels. In our constant search to find ways to make our guests feel even more at home, we saw this as an opportunity to look out for the people who stay with us at the end of a long day of work. We were there when you shuffled through our lobby to collect your takeaway deliveries. We knew we could do something better – something more convenient. But enough about that – if you haven’t heard about Eat-in yet, you’ve got some catching up to do! What we did want to talk about this month is what you could be using that extra time on, since you’ve just saved yourself a precious hour or so! Calling it an early night There really isn’t much worse than thinking you’ve…
Let us set the scene for you. The pandemic has presented some considerably challenges, but you’ve managed to make it through. Lockdown, unrest, home schooling, video meetings, the works. But then, one day, as you blink your eyes open at the start of a new day, and get a rush of adrenaline, seeing that there’s a person next to you in bed. Only, this shouldn’t be a surprise to you – you’ve been together for years. But you’ve been so focused on survival that you rarely even thought about your partner and the relationship that you’re in. Okay, that was a bit extreme, but you see where we’re coming from – in general, the pandemic has been harsh on even the most rock solid of relationships. January is normally all about setting resolutions, and we wanted to present a noble goal to set yourself – by the time Valentine’s Day comes around next…
A South African summer is all about having fun in the sun! Smart holiday makers make their plans around what summer activities they’re looking to do – so we thought we’d help you on your way to finding some extreme ways to keep cool this summer: Natural Airconditioning Skydiving isn’t for the feint hearted, but sometimes the only thing that can cool you down is jumping out of an aeroplane! Okay, sure, there are probably hundreds of other things you could try before getting to this, but we know there are some daredevils out there that are looking for any excuse. There are many great places across South Africa that offer training and skydiving adventures, but arguably one of the best places to do this is in Cape Town. A little north of Stellenbosch you will find Diermerskraal Airfield and using this as your “launch pad” for your dive will mean you have beautiful views of both the Atlantic and Indian Ocean…
Well done on making it through a pretty rough winter this year. We’re not sure if working from home makes it feel worse, but at least it’s in our rear-view mirror with only blue skies and summer days ahead of us. We hope you’re feeling up for adventure – months of sitting at home with all your favourite places closed can have that effect on you. Of course, we advise caution still – COVID-19 is still here and is still dangerous, so taking the standard precautions are as important as ever. But now is such a great time to go and visit some fantastic summer tourist spots. We’re obviously very biased, being in the hospitality industry ourselves, but it’s heart-breaking to think about the many livelihoods that rely on local and international tourism that have been affected during this time. What we’re trying to say is the stars have basically aligned for you to do good by your…
You’ve probably felt the temperature rising. Those cold fronts are a thing of the past, the sunny days are here! We’re as excited for summer as you are, but want to make sure you get the most out of it. We’re so proud of South Africa for the strides it’s been taking in the fight against COVID-19. It’s been a difficult journey and we’re thankful to everyone who played their part in protecting each other. Isolating ourselves and working from home has been a key factor in ending the third wave. We’re obviously not out of the woods, but it looks as though we can afford to relax a bit over the year-end. This is music to the ears of people who have been cooped up since the start of lockdown. Add some kids into the mix, and you’ve got the recipe for losing your marbles. Let’s talk about what we’ve got going on to make sure that won’t happen! Get…
We get that time normally feels like it flies, but the last little while – possibly because of lockdown and staying home more often – has been even more ‘zoomy’ than usual. With time passing at such an incredible rate, it’s easy to ignore just how much we’ve all had to endure in the last little while. The pandemic has brought with it lockdown levels, home schooling, home offices, and vaccine rollouts. Add in some unrest, cabinet shuffles, and Olympic gold medals, and it feels a bit like someone is playing bingo with our emotions. The point we’re trying to make is that you’re here, you’ve made it. While we look ahead hopeful for better times, don’t skip over the fact that you fought hard to get here. It’s almost like a superhero’s back story – your secret power is being a South African, and that means you have the ability to endure just about everything. In case you didn’t…
At CLHG, we firmly believe that inclusivity and diversity is the key to long-term success. In a month like August, when all eyes are focused on furthering the rights of women and levelling the playing fields, this is a pertinent time for us to celebrate the progress we’ve made as a hotel group and hear from some of the ladies at the top on what leadership means – the ladies that make us go Whoa! We’re Committed to Women in Leadership We are pleased to see increased interest from women in pursuing careers in hospitality. This is particularly noticeable in the high calibre of female students applying with us and 75% of our 2020 Work Integrated Students being women as well. We are a proud member of the 30% Club – a global campaign led by CEOs to increase gender diversity at board and senior management levels. The aim is to have at least 30% of a company’s key decision-makers…
We all watched with a heavy heart as President Cyril Ramaphosa announced South Africa’s return to lockdown level 4 this month. It is difficult, given how well things had been going, our country showing signs of turning the corner before the third wave hit us – fuelled by new variants. As a South African hotel group, we still stand by our President – it was a tough decision, but one made in the best interest of getting the spread of the virus under control. It does, however, mean that we’ve needed to revisit our processes in order to ensure we comply with current adjusted regulations, as well as safeguarding our guests and staff to the best of our abilities. Here are some key things to note when staying with us during lockdown level 4: First and Foremost, We Are Still Open Business travel is still open, and many of those travelling for work are performing functions vital…
We hope by now you’ve gotten bored of giving your dad the usual socks, jocks, and biltong for Father’s Day – we sure know he’s bored of receiving it! But we know the heart behind it, we love our dads and all the other father figures in our lives and want to spoil them – it’s just difficult to know how. Even when you do know what kind of trinket they’d like as a gift, they’re normally not cheap. So, what can one even do? What is a Rad Dad? A great question that we’re glad you asked. Let’s introduce you to our Rad Dad promotions! You see, men get told to act a certain way based on how they’re portrayed on TV. That macho, tough guy who’s too cool to look at the explosion while they walk away from saving the day. Thankfully, there are some dads out there that buck the mould and…
Flowers wilt and chocolates get eaten – so are they even a suitable gift for our moms? No doubt she appreciated them, but for someone so important in our lives, we feel like there should be more to it. At City Lodge Hotel Group, we’ve put a lot of thought into the perfect gift to give moms that shows them exactly how special they are. Let’s talk about what this ideal gift is: Some Space Running a family is a full-time job – quite literally in some cases. Our moms are sometimes more heavily invested in our lives than we are; they’re who we can count on to know the details, remember important dates, and motivate us to go achieve more. But being that invested in the rest of the family is a lot to carry on her shoulders, and that takes a toll. When last did you see your mom book herself in for some pampering time? Probably not often…
